Learning a language is challenging and yet the best mantra in refining one’s being in reaching out to the world. English, on the other hand, is the world’s first language in dealing with almost everything around us on a daily basis from simple communications down to complex transactions.

学习一门语言是很有挑战性的，但这也是我们和世界交流的一种重要方式。从简单的交流到复杂的交易，英语是世界范围使用最普遍的一种语言。

In the Academic Communication Skills class, we learn English in many peculiar fun ways and one of the most unforgettable lessons we had this week was about Foods and Cooking at Home with Transition Words. To get my students’ attention, I have decided to integrate cooking several healthy dishes with them with the help of their very supportive parents at home.

在枫叶，我们学习英语的方式多种多样。学术交流技巧课便是让大家最难忘的一门课，尤其是其中关于食物和烹饪的一节课，老师希望通过这节课的学习能提高同学们在实际生活中对英语过渡词汇的运用。为了激发学生们的兴趣，老师决定让同学们在父母的帮助下做几道健康的菜肴。

Scarlett (Wei Fengxiao), a Grade 10 student, gave one of the best performances in this task because she gave much effort to achieve a terrific result by baking a cake for her family. First, she introduced herself with confidence and then went on details about her task explaining the steps clearly with the materials used until the final product showing off her excellent baking skills. In this lesson, my students were able to distinguish healthy foods from unhealthy ones and the most important thing is this lesson reminded them of the importance of responsibility. The cake she baked didn't only look beautiful but also tasty because she made it with love and compassion and indeed made her parents not only full but also very proud and moved. 

   十年级学生Scarlett Wei在这次任务中表现最佳。她非常用心地为家人烤了一个蛋糕。视频中，她在自信地自我介绍之后，便开始边操作边解说蛋糕的制作步骤，最后的成品向我们秀出了她的烘焙技能，流利的解说也给我们展示了她英语过渡词汇的熟练运用。通过本节课的学习，同学们不仅能够区分食物的健康与否，也更加明白责任的重要性。Scarlett用心烤的这份蛋糕不仅让父母品尝到了美味，也让他们深切感受到培养出一名优秀学生的感动与自豪。

Reagan Cabauatan has been teaching English language in China for 11 years and this is now his 5th year teaching at Maple Leaf International School. He believes that success in teaching-learning process is always attributed to the creativity of the educators. For him, to be creative, the teacher has to always consider individual differences or diversity of learners in every learning episode to make it more meaningful and conducive to learning.
